Social life & activities

Gardening, shopping, indoor bowls, day trips, woodworking, music, sing-alongs, movies, card games, church services, cooking, cultural activities, housie, quizzes, exercises, birthday celebrations, Tai Chi, walking groups, happy hours and much, much more will keep you busy and socially active.

As one Wesleyhaven resident noted, “it is more social here than when I was in my own home by 10,000 times.”

Lifestyle, social life & activities

Our residents enjoy on site activities including crafts,  cooking, bowls, games, music, exercises, Tai Chi, word activities,  sing-a-longs, special events, and Happy Hour.

And for the more mobile rest home residents regular outings are scheduled including,  drives, shopping  trips, lunches out, special visits to places  such as concerts, the RSA, Botanical Gardens, Te Papa and more.

Our recreational team organise a wide variety of activities and events for each rest home and the hospital.

The Recreation Coordinators encourage mobility, exercise and activity and residents choose their own level of participation.

The monthly Activity Sheets are followed closely by residents.

Movies and reading

Snuggle up and turn on the DVDs in our movie afternoons, or join us for a group Dom Post reading

2pm Wednesdays - Movie Afternoon
10.30am or 11.15am Dominion Post readings (apart from Tuesdays)

Shopping

Either pop down to the shops on our twice weekly visits, or we can fetch your needs.

1pm Thursdays: Van drive with Bruce
"My favourite thing is that I feel it’s a “home away from home” for residents who can no longer live in their own home, and it think that’s something that not all rest homes are".

Woodwork

From driftwood collected from Petone beach, hoarded timber, local flax and other materials our woodworking team have produced model yachts, cars, toys, figurines, log cabin tissue boxes and even a historic model of a fortified Pa. Their imagination knows no bounds.

Regular activities, such as woodwork, engage residents and helps the time fly by.

Each rest home and our hospital has a monthly activity schedule that is full of activities that are designed to stimulate and encourage mobility.  Residents can choose their own level of participation.

9.45am Fridays at the rec hall with Keith
From one of our lovely staff: "It’s a lovely environment up here. I treat them like I’d treat my Mum and Dad. It’s wonderful to build up a rapport and trust, you feel like you’ve achieved something".

Gardening & outdoors

There are plentiful outside seating options throughout our extensive gardens while raised vegetable gardens welcome those who enjoy gardening and our chef’s enjoy turning our vegetables and fruit into nutritious meals and treats.

Arts, crafts and music

From fishing trips to trips to town, we try to provide the most opportunities possible to get out and experience events and activities.
